This round table program provided us with visions on energy management implementation in energy intensive industry from both the European as well as the industry perspective.
What have we discussed?
Following the press conference by the European Commission on the morning of February 16th, on the launch of its first big initiative under the energy union, the energy security package, our round table event discussed something very relevant also in that context: Energy Efficiency. While most people think that the EC energy security package is about gas, it's actually more than that and it has a big focus on energy effciciency. As mentioned by Commissioner Miguel Arias Canete, there are big ambitions for energy efficiency and it is a central plank of the long term energy security strategy.
We enjoyed this opportunity to hear the visions from the European Commission and Borealis and to present you our own vision on energy management implementation as what we call Energy Culture.

Paul Hodson, Head of Unit 'Energy Efficiency', Directorate-General for Energy, European Commission summarized the policies the European Commission has at the moment that has indications for industry (Building policies, Article 7 & 8, Research&Development).
Lieven Stalmans, Group Manager Energy & Environment at Borealis, explained the opportunities and challenges of ISO 500001 implementation.
The importance of behavioural change within industry was the final topic to be discussed. Ulrika Wising, Head of Sustainable Energy Use Europe at DNV GL, presented DNV GL's approach on energy management and energy savings in industry. You can download the PDF version of the presentation here.
